Where is the bamboo from?

Harvesting techniques?

What kind of bamboo?

The bamboo is grown in the US Virgin Islands. These islands are located in the Caribbean, east of Puerto Rico and west of the British Virgin Islands.

The bamboo is harvested from both St Croix and St Thomas. Carefully selected and from sustainable locations, the artist cuts down the bamboo only during waning moons, during the dry months of the year. The artist walks into a grove with a Japanese pull saw and comes out with aged bamboo. Washed and cleaned, its then set to dry and shape. Some are fire treated, some are not.

There are 1439 different species of bamboo. It is surprisingly in the grass family which explains why it is the fastest growing plant on the planet. Its considered the fastest growing wood and a stronger density to bend under pressure than steel. Different varieties are prized for different quality and uses. The artist mostly used “Painted” Bamboo and will sometimes feature other varieties.

The artist enjoys using locally grown natural materials as the base of all jewelry lines. You will sometimes be lucky enough to stumble upon the special occasions they display other more rare materials used in jewelry.
